About two years ago I decided it was time to play in a band, so
I got together with a couple of friends, put an ad in the paper
seeking musicians, and formed Ryegrass. After a few months of getting
together weekly, Ryegrass started performing in public at open mics.
2001:
After a few open mics the band was ready to play a full gig. and
here is Ryegrass performing at our first gig at the Pumps &
Grinds Coffeehouse in Duvall. We played an open mic there in February,
and the management was kind enough to ask us back to play for a
full evening a few weeks later.
Everyone not wearing a hat has remained with the group, including Jim
Hanna on guitar, Chip Diemond on bass, and Lynn Oliver on banjo.
Mike Sheraton, on mandolin, and Dan Hargrave, on fiddle, left the group
shortly after this gig.
We
were fortunate to find Andrew Gianni to play mandolin and sing tenor
for us, and for a few months Ryegrass performed as a quartet.
Here Ryegrass is performing at the Maple Valley Days ArtsFest,
entirely without hats. This summer we were extremely pleased that John Burke agreed to
play fiddle for Ryegrass.
Back
to full strength, in September Ryegrass performed at the Pickering
Barn for the Issaquah Public Market.
2002:
The next summer brought another change as Andrew left for the East
Coast and Carl Chatski joined the group. Here we are back at the
Pickering Barn for Art in the Barn.
Please check out the members page for more information on the musicians
in the band.
